China records first coronavirus deaths in a year

China has registered the first deaths from covid 19 after more than a year, according to the website of the National Health Commission, which states that two people died in the northeastern region of Jilin.
China officially had only two deaths from covid 19 in 2021, and the last one was confirmed on January 25 last year.
The country is currently facing the biggest wave of the epidemic and is pursuing a policy of zero tolerance to the coronavirus by performing “dynamic cleansing”, short closures and rapid testing wherever cases of infection are detected.
Jilin, on the border with North Korea and Russia, is at the epicenter of the current wave. Two thirds of the total number of infections in the country were recorded here.
The total number of confirmed deaths from covid 19 in China is now 4,638. The country had 2,228 new infections on March 18, and 2,416 the day before.
The number of new asymptomatic cases, which China does not classify as confirmed infections, was 1,823 yesterday, and 1,904 the day before.
As of March 18, China had a total of 128,462 cases of the infection.
