Elektroprivreda HZ HB starts delivering only ecologically produced energy

Public company Elektroprivreda Croatian Community of Herceg Bosne d. d. On the first day of the new year, 2023, Mostar will make another significant step forward by offering customers “green models” as part of the market supply, writes Večernji list BiH.

In this way, they will join the campaign within the European Union, the key goal of which is to make the transition from the use of fossil fuels to the production of electricity from renewable sources that do not pollute the environment.

Another significant step in this direction is the initiative that will encourage the production of electricity in households, which should start next year.

Advantage to entrepreneurs

The so-called for the time being, all buyers will be able to contract green models, except for buyers from the household category. As explained by the company based in Mostar, if the customer decides to contract the “green model”, he will be able to get a guarantee for every kilowatt hour consumed that the electricity delivered to him was entirely produced in plants that use renewable sources for the production of electricity.

The Law on the Use of Renewable Energy Sources and Effective Cogeneration in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina defines that the only way to guarantee the renewable character of the supplied electricity is for it to be fully covered by the guarantees of origin issued by the authorized body – the Operator for RES and UK.

By the way, EP Herceg Bosne is the only electricity company in Bosnia and Herzegovina that produces electricity exclusively from renewable sources. And mostly using water in hydroelectric power plants, while they also own a wind power plant in the area of Tomislavgrad. For this reason, in certain parts of the year, and this mostly happens in the summer months, and this year exceptionally even in the autumn period, electricity for the needs of supplying end customers must be purchased on the market, and therefore, before the system of guarantees of origin became functional, it was not there was a legal possibility to guarantee customers that every delivered kilowatt hour is “renewable”.

EP HZ HB stated that in the last few months, a significant number of inquiries from customers were received, in which they requested a guarantee or confirmation that the delivered electricity was produced from renewable sources, i.e. confirmation of the structure of consumption and carbon footprint, i.e. the exclusion of the possibility that this energy , first of all, produced in thermal power plants that use coal. The same source states that there are numerous reasons that motivate customers to this change in supply.

Primarily because BiH will soon have to harmonize its legislation, and electricity produced from fossil fuels will be burdened with the so-called CO2 certificate, which increases the price of each megawatt-hour of electricity produced by dozens of euros. On the other hand, foreign partners of companies operating in Bosnia and Herzegovina insist that their products have no or an extremely low carbon footprint for the purpose of socially responsible business and sustainable development and mitigating climate change.

Production from roofs

Companies that use electricity with the epithet “renewable” can market their products on significantly better terms and thus make them competitive on the market. Electrical companies from the countries of the region have been offering similar products to their customers for some time, and year after year the number of customers who decide to contract these models shows a significant growing trend.

With the sale of “green” energy, this company plans to build new wind and solar power plants, and it has also decided to involve citizens in everything. From January 1, 2024, they will be able to become electricity producers themselves, so they will be able to sell the amount of energy they produce to this company and thus reduce dependence on electricity imports.

Until now, only companies that received special permits from FERK, as well as the Operator for Renewable Energy Sources, could do so.
