In the third quarter, the number of unemployed decreased by 5.7 percent

In the third quarter of BiH, the labor force consisted of 1,366 million people, of which 1,163 million or 85.2 percent were employed and 203,000 or 14.8 percent were unemployed, according to data from the labor force survey in BiH.

Compared to the previous quarter, the number of employed persons increased by 0.8 percent, and the number of unemployed persons decreased by 5.7 percent, announced the BiH Statistics Agency.

In the third quarter of the total number of unemployed persons, 50,000 or 24.8 percent were looking for a job for less than 12 months, while 37,000 or 18.2 percent were looking for a job from 12 months to two years, while the number of unemployed persons who were looking for a job was two year and longer amounted to 115,000 or 57 percent.

According to the survey data, of the total number of people who make up the workforce, 846,000 or 61.9 percent are men, and 520,000 or 38.1 percent are women.

Of the total number of employed persons, 744,000 or 63.9 percent are men, and 420,000 or 36.1 percent are women, and of the total number of unemployed, 102,000 or 50.4 percent are men, and 101,000 or 49.6 percent are women.

In the observed period, of the total labor force, 66 percent of people belong to the age group of 25 to 49 years, followed by 25.1 percent to those from 50 to 64 years, 7.9 percent to the age group of 15 to 24 years and 1.1 percent are 65 and more years.

Of the total number of employed persons, 66.7 percent belong to the age group from 25 to 49 years, followed by 26.2 percent to those from 50 to 64 years, 5.9 percent to the age group from 15 to 24 years and 1.2 percent are 65 and many years.

Of the total number of unemployed persons, 61.9 percent belong to the age group of 25 to 49 years, then 19.2 percent to the age group of 15 to 24 years, 18.4 percent to the age group of 50 to 64 years and 0.4 percent are 65 and many years.

The largest share in the educational structure of the workforce is people with completed high school and specialization, 69.3 percent, followed by people with completed high school, university, master’s degree, doctorate, 21.1 percent, and people with completed elementary school or lower education. 9.7 percent.

The educational structure of employed persons shows that 69.5 percent of persons have completed high school and specialization, followed by persons with completed high school, university, master’s degree, doctorate 22.1 percent, and persons with completed elementary school or lower education 8.5 percent.

The educational structure of unemployed persons shows that 68.2 percent have completed high school and specialization, followed by those with completed primary school or lower education 16.5 percent, and persons with completed higher school, university, master’s degree, doctorate 15.4 percent.

The structure of employed persons according to groups of areas of activity shows that the largest participation of employed persons is in service activities – 59.1 percent, followed by industry and construction 33.4 percent and in agriculture, forestry and fishing 7.5 percent.

The survey was conducted on a sample that included 10,728 households in the third quarter, and all resident members of private households were surveyed.

With the aim of harmonizing with EU regulations and Eurostat requirements, starting from 2020, the procedure of calibrating weights according to population estimates by five-year age groups and gender is being carried out.
