A unified toll collection system is being introduced in FBiH and RS

The system of electronic tolling on highways in the Republic of Srpska and the Federation of BiH should be integrated, so that drivers in BiH can use the unique tag device in BiH by the summer.

This was confirmed for Srpskainfo by Slobodan Stanarević, the executive director for technical issues at “Autoputevi RS”.

Representatives of “Autoputeva RS” and “Autocesta FBiH” had a meeting on the subject this week, and according to Stanarević, it was agreed that an agreement on cooperation between the two public companies would be signed as early as next month.

He expects that the novelty on the highways in BiH will “take root” by the beginning of the summer holiday season.

As Stanarević points out, the will is there, it is still necessary to arrange the system technically, so that the payment is automatically separated into the accounts of the RS and the Federation, depending on which highway the drivers take.

They are also optimistic in “Autoceste FBiH”, from which they also say that the integrated system of using a unique TAG device in the entire area of BiH should be implemented by the beginning of the summer season. They assure that this will not affect the increase in the cost of using highways in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Costs for users will remain the same because they are tags of the same type, only that users will have two accounts installed on one device-Tag, where one will be intended for the registration of passage on the part of the Republic of Srpska and the other on the part of the Federation according to which it will be done automatic charging in favor of one or another Public Enterprise”, explained from “Autocest” FBiH.

They also remind that the existing toll collection systems in the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the RS are based on manual and electronic payment systems, and constitute completely separate systems without communication between the systems.

“Considering that maintaining the existing toll collection system would increase costs and reduce the quality of service for the user, a collaboration between Autoputev RS and JP Autocesta FBiH is proposed, which will enable the use of a single, unique TAG device both in the territory of FBiH and in in the area of RS. In this way, we will achieve technological interoperability between electronic toll collection systems in the territory of BiH, which makes the collection system more efficient, encourages a further increase in the acceptance of TAG devices throughout the territory of BiH, reduces the waiting time for collection and generally increases the level of service for the user”, they said from this companies.

Let us remind you that Serbia was originally involved in the whole story, as part of the “Open Balkans” regional project initiative, but, as Stanarević said, they had to abandon this idea due to “certain problems”.
