The Government of FBiH agrees with the extension of the ban on the export of certain wood assortments

At the proposal of the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry, the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at today’s session in Mostar, established an opinion in which it agrees with the Proposal for a decision on the temporary ban on the export of certain forest products, which was submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina on January 26. in 2023.

This decision, the implementation of which is proposed until May 31, 2023, temporarily prohibits the export of certain forest wood assortments with the aim of ensuring the necessary quantities for the processing industry and eliminating the threat of serious or irreparable damage to forests in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The temporary ban refers to the export of forest wood assortments classified in eleven tariff codes, which include untreated wood.

As explained by this state ministry, the proposal for this decision was made on the basis of consultations and meetings with the relevant entity institutions.

The decision proposed that upon its entry into force, the Decision on the temporary ban on the export of certain forest assortments and wood products, which was in force until January 31, 2023, ceases to be valid. With that decision, the export of the same wood assortments was also temporarily prohibited. Therefore, with the adoption of a new decision, the temporary export ban for these assortments would be extended until the end of May 2023.

“In the explanation of the newly proposed decision, it was also stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina has a developed wood processing industry that employs a large number of workers, and whose survival depends on the orderly supply of certain types of wood. Therefore, forest wood assortments represent an essential and strategic commodity for Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the same time, it is particularly important to ensure ecologically and economically sustainable management of forest resources”, announced the FBiH Government Office for Public Relations.
